RRI.CO.ID, Jepara - Indonesia's Jepara Regency is strengthening coastal livelihoods by providing alternative skills training for fishermen. The program was announced in Jepara on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The initiative aims to help fishermen earn additional income during rough weather and off-fishing seasons. It also supports stronger economic resilience among coastal communities.

Regional Secretary of Jepara Regency, Ary Bachtiar, said the local government encourages fishermen to develop businesses beyond fishing. He said the program is expected to improve the welfare of coastal families.

"We want fishermen not only to catch fish, but also to have other alternative businesses." he said.

Head of the Jepara Fisheries Office, Muh Tahsin, said participants received training in boat repair, fish processing, entrepreneurship, product packaging, digital marketing, and small business management. He added the government would continue assisting participants after the training.

"This training will not stop here and will continue. During the west monsoon season, fishermen can pursue other businesses." he added.

Jepara has also proposed several coastal villages for Indonesia's Red and White Fishing Village (KNMP) program. The local government expects the initiative to strengthen coastal economies while creating more resilient fishing communities.
