RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, reminded that child protection in the digital space will not be optimal if parents still allow children under the age of 16 to access high-risk social media. According to her, the PP TUNAS program is here to help families protect children from addiction, exposure to age-inappropriate content, and the impact on health and development.

However, rules cannot replace the role of parents. Regulations serve as supporting instruments so that families have stronger protection in accompanying children in the digital space.

"This regulation was created to help parents protect their children in the digital realm. However, this regulation assists parents, it does not replace them," Meutya Hafid said at the Gerak Bersama Anak Indonesia event in South Jakarta, Sunday, July 19, 2026.

According to her, child protection must start from digital platforms. Therefore, PP TUNAS requires every platform provider to implement child protection from the service design stage or safety by design, including ensuring that digital products and services are safe for children to use.

"Indonesian children are very valuable. His rights in the digital realm must be respected by platforms. Our commitment is to regulate digital platforms to ensure the safety of Indonesian children from the safety by design stage to the products and services they provide," she conveyed.

She added that the digital space must be a safe place for children to learn, express themselves, create, and grow, not a dangerous space. Therefore, the government continues to encourage digital platforms to strengthen age verification systems and protection for child users.

Nevertheless, The Deputy emphasized that the success of child protection in the digital space still depends on parental involvement in accompanying children when using technology. According to her, collaboration between the government, digital platforms, and families is key to creating a safe and healthy digital ecosystem for Indonesian children.
