RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) views the commemoration of National Children’s Day 2026 on July 23 as an opportunity to strengthen child protection through collaboration, family empowerment, safe spaces, and improved systems to prevent and address violence against children.

“Child protection is a shared responsibility that requires the involvement of families, schools, government, communities, and digital ecosystem actors. Collaboration among all elements is needed to provide safe spaces that support children’s growth and development,” said Assistant Deputy for Service Providers for Children Needing Special Protection at KemenPPPA, Ciput Eka Purwanti, in Jakarta on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

She explained that the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (Gernas RANA), launched in July 2026, integrates efforts to prevent violence, strengthen parenting, create child‑friendly schools and public spaces, and secure digital environments. The initiative aims to reinforce the child protection system and break the cycle of violence.

“Child protection must start with the family and good parenting. Safe schools, child‑friendly public spaces, and healthy digital spaces reduce the risk of violence against children,” she said.

Ciput noted that sexual violence cases have been the most frequently reported in recent years, reflecting growing public awareness of child protection. However, she emphasized that the number of reports remains far below the actual prevalence.

According to the 2024 National Survey of the Life Experiences of Children and Adolescents (SNPHAR), only around 20,000 victims reported and received services, while non‑contact sexual violence in the digital realm alone affects 4 percent of children aged 13–17.

“Compared to the 2024 SNPHAR results, this is just the tip of the iceberg,” she said.

She stressed that National Children’s Day is not only a celebration for children but also a reminder for adults to fulfill children’s rights through care, support, and safe environments. “Through Gernas RANA, we aim to eliminate all potential spaces for violence against children. If violence does occur, the public will know how to report it, and the state will provide standardized child protection services,” Ciput said.

National Children’s Day 2026 will be held in a decentralized format across regions to encourage wider participation. Activities will include games, opportunities for children to voice aspirations, and introductions to various professions.

Farmers welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that stronger policies will ensure safer environments for children. (Misni Parjiati)
