Indonesian Coast Guard Holds Shooting Training for Operational Readiness

RRI.CO.ID, Batam - Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla) held a shooting exercise as part of the warming-up of technical equipment and weapon systems to ensure the operational readiness of personnel and main weaponry system equipment. The training took place in the waters east of Galang Island, Batam, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

The activity was led by the Deputy for Operations and Training of Bakamla RI, Rear Admiral Bakamla Eko Wahjono. It was also attended by the Director of Maritime Operations of Bakamla RI, First Admiral Bakamla Lukman Kharish, while the Head of the Western Bakamla Zone, First Admiral Bakamla Bambang Trijanto, was represented by the Head of Operations of the Western Bakamla Zone.

The exercise involved two elements of patrol vessels, namely KN Bintang Laut-401 and KN Belut Laut-406. The training material includes shooting using a 30 mm caliber cannon, a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun (HMG), light weapons, and sniper weapons.

The entire series of exercises was carried out in stages, starting from the ammunition loading process, communication procedures, target preparation in the form of floating drums, to the execution of the shooting. During the activities, the safety of personnel and materials remains the top priority.

Based on the results of the training exercise, all weapon systems used, ranging from 30 mm cannons, 12.7 mm SMB, light weapons, to sniper rifles, functioned well as planned. An evaluation was also conducted to improve the reliability of the weapon systems in supporting maritime operations.

Overall, the training was conducted safely, orderly, and smoothly without any accidents or incidents involving personnel. This activity is part of the Coast Guard's efforts to maintain the readiness of personnel and equipment in facing various security tasks in Indonesia's maritime areas.

The evaluation results from the training will serve as the basis for improving the maintenance of technical equipment and the development of a continuous training program. This step is expected to enhance the effectiveness of Bakamla RI's duties in maintaining security and safety in Indonesian waters.
