RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamen Komdigi), Nezar Patria, emphasized that the success of a government policy is not only determined by the quality of the policy substance but also by effective communication and the level of public trust.

According to Nezar, amidst the rapid development of the digital platforms, the government is required to build an adaptive communication pattern so that every policy can be understood, accepted, and trusted by the public.

"What we are doing is seeking public trust. The success of a policy depends on policy quality, communication practices, and public trust. A good policy does not automatically become a trusted policy," Nezar said at the Public Discussion and Book Review on Policy Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office (Komdigi), Jakarta, Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

Nezar explained that changes in public behavior in accessing information have transformed the landscape of public communication. The government is no longer the sole source of information because the public can now obtain, produce, and disseminate information directly through various digital platforms.

That condition, he continued, requires government policy communication to compete with various narratives that are developing in the digital environment, including content produced by digital creators.

"Now information sources are widely dispersed. The public no longer needs to wait for the media or public relations team to get information. In fact, content created by digital creators often competes with official government information," he explained.

Furthermore, Nezar believes that the challenges of government communication are becoming increasingly complex because social media algorithms shape perceptions more based on sentiment than on facts. This phenomenon triggers polarization, echo chambers, and post-truth narratives, which affect the way society views and interprets a policy.

To address the situation, he emphasized the importance of fast, open, empathetic, and dialogue-oriented government communication to rebuild public trust.

According to him, the use of technologies such as social listening, sentiment analysis, and early warning systems is also important for monitoring public conversations and anticipating potential communication crises, including the spread of AI-generated deepfake content.
