Minister Encourages Indonesian Youth to Compete Globally at Wirasena Youth Camp

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian government's commitment to preparing Indonesia's youth to be globally competitive thru the organization of the Wirasena Youth Camp and the Indonesia Youth Summit 2026. Indoneisa's Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, made the statement in Jakarta, Monday, July 13, 2026.

He said that youth development is one of the government's priority agendas. Therefore, the government continues to open up opportunities for the younger generation to develop, innovate, and become the driving force of the nation's progress.

"Today we are laying the foundation for the young generation of Indonesia." Not only to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Youth Pledge Day, but to build the character, mindset, and competitiveness of the youth for the next 100 years. The future of Indonesia is in their hands," the Minister said.

According to him, the Wirasena Youth Camp and the Indonesia Youth Summit are not merely commemorative events for Youth Pledge Day, but rather strategic steps by the government to equip the youth with leadership capacity and competencies that can compete at the international level.

As part of these efforts, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has conducted benchmarking with nine countries, namely the United States, China, Singapore, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Japan, and South Korea. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is also coordinating with the United Nations (UN) to ensure that the development of Indonesian youth capacity adheres to global standards.

"Although this activity is being held for the first time, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has established communication and cooperation with nine countries. We have also coordinated with the UN so that the capacity development of Indonesian youth can refer to global standards," he said.

The Wirasena Youth Camp will be held from October 21 to 31, 2026, in the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) area and several supporting locations in Jakarta. The leadership program will involve around 5,000 participants from 38 provinces with a curriculum designed by experts.

Meanwhile, the Indonesia Youth Summit 2026 will be a collaborative forum that brings together 168 selected youth from across Indonesia to exchange ideas, innovations, and solutions in welcoming the centenary of Youth Pledge Day and strengthening the role of the younger generation in national development.
