RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry continues to strengthen the implementation of carbon trading as part of its efforts to support the achievement of national emission reduction targets while simultaneously opening up opportunities to improve public welfare. This commitment was emphasized by the presence of Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni and Vice Minister Rohmat Marzuki at the launch of the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) organized by the Indonesian government.

The launch of the SRUK in Jakarta on Thursday, July 9, 2026, marks an important milestone in building transparent and integrated national carbon trading governance. This system serves as a national registry for the recording, traceability, and management of all Indonesian carbon units, thereby enhancing the credibility of carbon trading at the national and international levels.

However, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni affirmed that carbon trading in the forestry sector does not stop with the launch of the registration system; implementation has already begun. He believes this step demonstrates the government's commitment to implementing carbon trading in stages.

Meanwhile, Vice Minister Rohmat Marzuki explained that the Ministry of Forestry has prepared regulatory instruments as a foundation for implementing carbon trading in the forestry sector. "The Ministry of Forestry has approved three Forest Utilization Business Permit (PBPH) units for ecosystem rehabilitation or restoration, and one Social Forestry unit, a Village Forest, covering 224,000 hectares," he said.

These units have a carbon trading potential of 31.7 million tons of CO₂ equivalent, with an estimated transaction value of around IDR 5 trillion. This value is estimated to contribute around IDR 500 billion to Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP)

He emphasized that carbon trading in the forestry sector is expected to be more than just a platform for the private sector and investors. He sincerely hopes this system will also benefit the community.

Meanwhile, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the President's Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, stated that the presence of the SRUK demonstrates Indonesia's readiness to build a credible carbon market. According to him, many international investors and market players are ready to participate in the Indonesian carbon market.

Through SRUK, the Government presents a national registry system that supports the recording of Carbon Economic Value (NEK) instruments, ensures transparency and traceability of each carbon unit, and supports the achievement of Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets towards a low-carbon economy.
