RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Updates to cybersecurity regulations continue being expedited as part of Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen digital protection. The Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission I is currently discussing the Draft Law on Cybersecurity and Defense (RUU KKS) with the government through a series of meetings and substantive revisions.

Commission I lawmaker Syamsu Rizal Marzuki Ibrahim, also known as Ical, said the bill will undergo partial public testing by parliament and the government to absorb feedback. Ahead of that process, each legislator is compiling notes and analyses on the draft, which continues to be refined through discussions with ministries.

He noted that Commission I has also consulted experts to align the bill’s substance with current cyber threats. “We are no longer anticipating war; we are already in a digital war,” Ical remarked, as quoted by Antara, stressing the urgency of a legal framework to safeguard Indonesia’s cyber sovereignty.

Ical emphasized that comprehensive public input is essential to ensure the law provides stronger protection. He underscored that the RUU KKS reflects the state’s commitment to defending national sovereignty, including in the digital domain.

The draft remains under discussion in Commission I. On June 30, 2026, lawmakers held a public hearing with cyber experts Pratama Persada of CISSReC and Ardi Sutedja of Indonesia Cyber Services to gather further recommendations. ***
