RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, underscored the importance of maintaining a healthy telecommunications industry ecosystem in Indonesia.
He conveyed this during a meeting with the President Director and Chief Executive Officer of XLSMART at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta.
Nezar said a well-functioning ecosystem is a key factor in strengthening investment in 5G networks. As a result, the public will benefit from faster, more stable services with wider coverage.
He explained that the Ministry is working to foster a conducive environment through regulations tailored to the current state of Indonesia’s telecommunications industry.
“We are trying to reduce regulatory costs. We want to ensure this industry operates properly under stable financial conditions,” Nezar said in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026.
He emphasized that a healthy telecommunications industry is crucial for operators. With such an environment, operators will continue to invest in next-generation networks.
To that end, Nezar noted, the government is striving to implement policies that provide certainty for the telecommunications industry. According to him, this will also accelerate national digital transformation.
On that occasion, Nezar welcomed XLSMART’s commitment to accelerating the rollout of 5G networks in Indonesia. He said the expansion of coverage will strengthen digital connectivity and improve the public’s experience with high-speed internet services.
“The Ministry greatly appreciates XLSMART’s cooperation and support, as that commitment is what matters most. I’m very pleased to hear that XLSMART is undertaking this 5G transformation in Indonesia because XLSMART is expanding very aggressively,” said Nezar.
XLSMART (PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk) is one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications operators. Formerly known as XL Axiata, the company rebranded after merging with Smartfren. It offers mobile services, broadband, and digital solutions under brands including XL, XL Prioritas, XL Satu, AXIS, and Smartfren.
XLSMART is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (ticker: EXCL) and is jointly owned by Axiata Investments Indonesia and Sinar Mas, with public shareholders holding the remainder. (Gusti Panji)
