RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has emphasized that national fiscal management remains cautious amid the rollout of priority programs.
Every strategic policy is formulated through comprehensive discussions that take into account economic and social conditions as well as the government’s fiscal capacity.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said every strategic decision made by President Prabowo Subianto is based on thorough analysis. He added that the Finance Ministry consistently provides assessments of fiscal risks and budgetary implications for consideration before decisions are taken.
“Last year, the State Budget deficit stood at around 2.81 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and this year it is projected to remain below 3 percent. The government’s debt‑to‑GDP ratio also remains around 40 percent, which is still within a prudent range,” Minister Purbaya said in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, April 25, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Minister Purbaya explained that priority programs, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) and the Red and White Villages Cooperatives (KDMP), are continuously evaluated to ensure more effective and targeted implementation. He noted that every new program faces challenges in its early stages and requires ongoing improvements.
“The government is not ignoring the shortcomings that exist. Most importantly, every weakness must be promptly addressed, and oversight must be strengthened,” he said.
In addition to improving budget efficiency, the government is strengthening supervision and coordination with executing agencies to promote more accountable State Budget spending. Reforms within the ministry are also being accelerated, including eradicating irregularities in taxation and customs.
“Misconduct is an inherent risk in every organization. Most importantly, we must control it, take action against the perpetrators, and continue to improve the system to make it cleaner,” Minister Purbaya said. ***
