RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is inviting all ministries/institutions, regional governments, the business community, academics, and the public to strengthen collaboration to accelerate the implementation of the National Priority Work Program in the marine and fisheries sector. Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, made the statement at the National Coordination Meeting themed "Accelerating the Marine and Fisheries Sector's PKPN to Support Food Self-Sufficiency" held in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, explained that the development of the marine and fisheries sector plays a strategic role in supporting the national development agenda and the implementation of the President's Asta Cita (Asta Cita). He explained that the program includes strengthening food sovereignty through the provision of fish protein and salt, encouraging sustainable economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving the quality of human resources.

To support the national food self-sufficiency target, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is consolidating six National Priority Work Programs under the ministry's responsibility. These include the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP), which will develop 5,000 locations by 2029 as centers of economic growth for coastal communities. In addition to this program, he continued the Thematic Inland Fish Cultivation program by developing 40,000 cultivation sites in 500 districts/cities to support national protein supply.

Furthermore, the National Salt Self-sufficiency program will develop up to 2,000 hectares of salt ponds to reduce dependence on imports. This will be followed by the Pantura Java Fish Pond Revitalization program, covering approximately 14,000 hectares, to support protein self-sufficiency and coastal area rehabilitation.

Furthermore, the Integrated Shrimp Pond Area in Waingapu, covering 2,000 hectares, will be developed as a modern, environmentally friendly shrimp farming area. In closing, he explained the final program, the Fishing Vessel Modernization program, to increase productivity and improve fisher competitiveness, and support measured fishing policies.

In its implementation, Minister Trenggono continued, the National Priority Work Program in the maritime and fisheries sector is being implemented using a bottom-up approach. He explained that this method involves actively involving communities, local governments, and stakeholders from the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages of the program.

This approach ensures that the programs implemented address local needs and potential, strengthen community ownership, and increase the effectiveness and sustainability of development in coastal areas. "We must jointly oversee all planned programs through to the implementation stage to ensure they provide tangible benefits to the community through increased regional economic growth, strengthened food security, created jobs, and improved community welfare," he said.
