RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The meeting between the Turkish parliamentary delegation and the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) expanded bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Both countries committed to closer collaboration in women’s empowerment, education, health, and stronger ties between legislative institutions.
Speaker of the DPR RI Bilateral Cooperation Group (GKSB) for Türkiye, Totok Daryanto, emphasized the strategic role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering stronger relations.
“The GKSB’s main task is to strengthen parliamentary relations between countries. We act as a second layer and reinforce ties through parliamentary channels,” Totok said after the delegation met lawmakers from Commission VIII at the DPR RI Nusantara III Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 1, 2026, as quoted on the DPR RI’s official website.
Relations between Indonesia and Türkiye have grown steadily, with cooperation already established in defense and the economy. Totok noted that parliamentary diplomacy can provide breakthroughs if intergovernmental relations face obstacles, while in well-established ties it serves to deepen partnerships.
He added that the Turkish delegation’s visit and meeting with Commission VIII would benefit Indonesia, particularly in advancing the economy, education, and culture. “The involvement of a friendly country like Türkiye is also valuable,” he said.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Commission on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the Turkish Parliament, Çiğdem Erdoğan, stressed the need to further strengthen ties through more intensive inter-parliamentary cooperation.
“We are here today because of the strong bond between our two countries and our two presidents. We also want to strengthen the bond between our two parliaments,” she said.
She added that both parliaments would take concrete steps following the meeting to enhance collaboration in women’s empowerment, education, health, and the protection of women and children. “After this, we will take concrete steps to improve our cooperative relationship with Indonesia,” Çiğdem said. ***
