RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia has confirmed that the mandatory implementation of Biodiesel 50 (B50) is ready for nationwide rollout following its inauguration by President Prabowo Subianto in July 2026.

The policy requires blending 50 percent biodiesel into diesel fuel, a strategic step to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen national energy security.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM) announced that all sectors are prepared for the mandatory implementation of B50. “It’s ready. All sectors are ready for B50 implementation ahead of the President’s inauguration,” said ESDM spokesperson Dwi Anggia in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Anggia explained that B50 will be implemented simultaneously across Indonesia. Technical preparations have been completed, including extensive testing of B50 in various modes and sectors.

Trials have been conducted on vehicles and equipment, including heavy machinery, ships, trains, mining vehicles, excavators, and agricultural tools, with results confirming readiness for national adoption. “Preparations are thorough. It’s ready throughout Indonesia,” she said.

B50 is a biodiesel blend consisting of 50 percent palm oil‑based biofuel and 50 percent diesel. The higher blend is expected to reduce fossil fuel consumption and energy imports.

President Prabowo Subianto previously stated that the launch of B50 marks an important step toward achieving energy self‑sufficiency within three to four years. “I estimate that in three years, a maximum of four years, we will be energy self‑sufficient. We don’t want to import anything for our fuel or our energy,” he said.

According to him, energy independence is a strategic necessity for Indonesia to avoid reliance on foreign fuel supplies, particularly during geopolitical turmoil affecting oil‑producing countries and global distribution routes, such as the escalation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The B50 mandate is regulated under Ministerial Decree No. 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026, which requires blending biodiesel with diesel fuel at a 50 percent ratio. The government has provided a transition period for fuel suppliers, allowing B40 distribution until September 30, 2026, provided it meets established standards and specifications. ***
