RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said halal certification is a vital instrument for expanding market access for micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) and boosting product competitiveness in both domestic and global markets.

“Halal certification makes it easier for MSME products to enter national and international markets. This will also strengthen the people’s economy,” Haikal said on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

He explained that the halal concept is now viewed as more than just fulfilling sharia requirements; it has become a crucial element of the national economic ecosystem, providing added value for businesses.

Haikal noted that the halal industry and its supply chain currently contribute around 27 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP), equivalent to approximately IDR 4,900 trillion. This figure underscores the strategic role of the halal sector in driving economic growth.

Through BPJPH, the government continues to expand access to free halal certification for MSMEs across various regions, aiming to ensure more local products can compete in the market.

“This program is not just about issuing certificates. It is an investment in improving business quality and competitiveness. With halal-certified products, consumer trust will grow, and business opportunities will expand,” he said.

Haikal added that strengthening halal certification is a strategic step toward positioning Indonesia as a global hub for the halal industry. (Misni Parjiati)
