RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency, in collaboration with Statistics Indonesia (BPS), has launched the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) for the creative economy sector to strengthen the country’s data foundation and support more targeted policymaking.
Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said the 2026 Economic Census marks an important opportunity to comprehensively map Indonesia’s creative economy potential and enhance collaboration among stakeholders.
“With clearer data, the government, associations, academics, and creative industry players can work together more effectively to make the creative economy a new engine of national economic growth,” Riefky said during the Socialization of the 2026 Economic Census for the Creative Economy Sector in Jakarta on Monday, June 29, 2026.
He said data on creative economy subsectors serves as the basis for government policymaking while also providing a reference for associations and other stakeholders in developing Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem.
According to the 2025 Creative Economy Statistics published by BPS, the sector’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached Rp1,757.87 trillion in 2025, growing 6.86 percent, outpacing Indonesia’s overall economic growth of 5.11 percent.
The creative economy also employed approximately 27.4 million workers, accounting for 18.7 percent of the country’s total workforce.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, described data as strategic infrastructure for national development. He said the 2026 Economic Census is a vital investment because accurate data will lead to better policies while creating new opportunities to accelerate the growth of the creative economy.
Separately, BPS Head, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, said the success of the census depends heavily on the active participation of creative economy businesses in providing accurate and complete information. She assured that respondents’ data would remain confidential in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
The socialization event also featured the handover of the 2025 Creative Economy Statistics report and a joint census questionnaire exercise involving representatives of creative economy subsector associations as part of preparations for the 2026 Economic Census.
