RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has offered to export a minimum of 10,000 tons of rice to Singapore as part of efforts to strengthen its strategic partnership in the food sector. The offer reflects ongoing initiatives to expand the already robust agricultural commodity trade between the two countries.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman conveyed the commitment during a bilateral meeting with Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and Environment, Grace Fu, at the Ministry of Agriculture in Jakarta on Monday, June 29, 2026.
“We propose exporting a minimum of 10,000 tons of rice from Indonesia to Singapore,” Minister Amran said, as quoted by Antara.
Indonesia also offered to increase exports of other strategic food commodities, including chicken, eggs, palm oil, coconut, and various agricultural products needed by Singapore.
Both countries agreed to strengthen collaboration by exchanging agricultural technology and innovation to support regional food security.
“We also want to increase cooperation in chicken, eggs, and palm oil, as well as strengthen the exchange of agricultural technology. This is a mutually beneficial collaboration for both countries,” Minister Amran added.
He noted that Indonesia has the capacity to meet these needs, supported by strong national rice production and reserves. Government rice reserves currently stand at around 5.1 million tons, while the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) warehouse capacity is about 3 million tons, with the remainder stored in rented facilities.
“Our rice stocks have reached around 5.1 million tons. Bulog’s warehouses can only accommodate about 3 million tons, so some must be stored in rented warehouses. Therefore, God willing, Indonesia is ready to export at least 10,000 tons of rice to Singapore,” he said.
Minister Amran explained that rice exports to Singapore are not new, as they have previously been carried out through private businesses. The scheme now being explored involves collaboration between Indonesian state‑owned enterprises (SOEs) and private partners in Singapore to expand food trade.
Singapore’s Minister Grace Fu expressed appreciation for the progress of Indonesia’s agricultural sector, which she said has successfully increased productivity through investments in research, technology, superior seeds, equipment, and mechanization.
“The increase in yields and productivity achieved is very impressive. Indonesia has invested heavily in research and development, technology, seeds, equipment, and mechanization, which has successfully increased agricultural production,” Grace Fu said.
She added that Singapore still imports the majority of its food needs, giving Indonesia significant opportunities to become a more important supplier.
“Therefore, the potential for food exports from Indonesia represents an excellent opportunity for collaboration. We also welcome further exploration of the proposed export of 10,000 tons of rice with the Singaporean government,” she said.
Singapore is one of Indonesia’s strategic trading partners in agriculture. In 2025, bilateral trade in agricultural commodities between the two countries reached approximately USD 849.6 million, with Indonesian exports totaling USD 482.9 million and imports from Singapore amounting to USD 366.7 million.
The Indonesian government believes there is still significant room to expand food trade with Singapore. Exploring rice and other strategic commodity exports is expected to not only increase market access for Indonesian products but also strengthen food security for both countries through a mutually beneficial partnership. ***
