RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is looking to transform its airports into gateways for showcasing local intellectual property (IP) and creative economy products, positioning them as strategic spaces to promote national talent to the world.
Minister of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency Head Teuku Riefky Harsya, together with Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), discussed ways to optimize airports in supporting regional creative growth.
Minister Riefky stressed that airports should not be seen merely as transport hubs but as cultural showcases. “Airports must serve as display windows that highlight Indonesia’s intellectual property, creative products, and local talent to the global community,” he said in a statement on Friday, June 26, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The ministry’s focus includes curating and expanding the presence of local IP at major airports through cross-sector collaboration--ranging from licensing characters for merchandise and developing creative products with SMEs, to placing creative works in public facilities.
Plans also involve creative activations to enrich passenger experiences, such as art exhibitions, photo galleries, music performances, installations, bazaars, and international events integrated with regional creative promotion.
“We want to create more memorable travel experiences through creative economy touchpoints. Showcasing creative works and events at airports strengthens Indonesia’s image while opening wider market opportunities for creative players,” Riefky added.
Collaboration with PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (InJourney) is central to this effort, covering the use of facilities as marketing spaces, data exchange on IP trends, and support for ministry programs.
One example is the Game Station at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, featuring Indonesian-developed games to promote national talent and offer interactive experiences for passengers.
AHY emphasized that stronger regulation and cross-sector collaboration will enhance airport ecosystem governance and competitiveness. “Competitiveness is the measure of achievement and service quality in airports,” he said.
Looking ahead, the ministry aims to deepen synergy across government agencies, local administrations, state-owned enterprises, and creative industry players to establish airports as sustainable hubs for Indonesia’s creative economy. ***
