RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A total of 4.7 million children accounts have been deactivated by several digital platforms as part of the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Administration in Child Protection (PP TUNAS). This step serves as an initial indicator of the implementation of regulations that require digital platforms to enhance protection for children in the digital space.

Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, said that most of the deactivated accounts came from the TikTok and YouTube platforms. According to her, the government hopes that similar steps will soon be followed by other digital platforms.

"TikTok has removed 4.1 million accounts as of June. YouTube reported around 600 thousand accounts in May. We want other platforms to follow suit," Meutya said during her visit to the Photojournalism Exhibition in Jakarta, Thursday, June 25, 2026.

In addition to account deactivation, Meutya revealed that around 200 electronic system organizers have submitted self-assessments to the government as part of the obligation to implement the TUNAS Government Regulation. The reports are currently being evaluated to determine the risk levels of each platform in providing services to children.

According to her, the government is implementing a risk-based approach so that each platform not only restricts children's access but also makes system improvements capable of creating a safer digital space. "We are not just delaying children's access, but we also want to see behavioral changes from the platform. So we are making the rules based on risk or risk-based," the Minister stated.

Currently, the Ministry of Communication and Digital is still verifying the documents submitted by digital platforms. The results of this evaluation will later serve as the basis for determining the risk profiles that will be announced to the public.

"We are currently reviewing the documents from all the submitted platforms to assess whether this poses a high risk or not," she said.

She emphasized that the success of implementing the TUNAS Regulation does not only depend on government supervision but also requires the commitment of digital platforms, parental support, media, and community participation in creating a safer digital ecosystem for children.
