RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Creative Economy and Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, has expressed support for the development of Astral Bond, a culture-based Indonesian intellectual property (IP) that is currently being developed into a mobile game as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s gaming industry ecosystem.

During a meeting with Mahakarya Studio at the Ministry of Creative Economy’s office in Jakarta on June 24, 2026, Irene said Astral Bond has the potential to become a competitive local game IP, as it already has a strong foundation through its webtoon series that can be adapted into various media platforms.

“The Astral Bond webtoon provides a strong foundation because it can easily be adapted into films and games. Therefore, collaboration with other sectors is essential so developers do not have to build everything on their own, making it easier to overcome challenges,” Irene said in a statement received by RRI in Jakarta on Thursday.

Astral Bond is an IP inspired by Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. In addition to its webtoon series, 'Astral Bond: Klub Warisan Nusantara', Mahakarya Studio is currently developing a role-playing game (RPG) for mobile devices aimed at introducing Indonesian culture to younger generations through digital media.

Irene also said the development of the gaming industry requires not only creative works but also a strong ecosystem that includes community building, talent development, and effective marketing strategies. As part of this effort, Mahakarya Studio is collaborating with the Ministry of Creative Economy and Voice Institute Indonesia (VII) to recruit voice actors for the Astral Bond game.

Meanwhile, Mahakarya Studio CEO and Creative Director, Rachmat Lianda, said the company chose mobile gaming as its primary platform because it offers the widest reach while serving as a medium to introduce Indonesia’s cultural richness to global audiences.

“We see games as having a social impact. Games are a form of entertainment that can reach many more people through mobile platforms. We want to become leaders in our own country because Indonesia has abundant cultural, visual, and creative potential that can continue to be explored,” Rachmat said.

The meeting was also attended by Astral Bond Lead Writer Putri Amanda, Business Advisor Fajrin Rasyid, and the Ministry of Creative Economy’s Director of Film, Animation, and Video, Doni Setiawan.
