RRI.CO.ID, Sampang - Indonesia's President, Prabowo Subianto, inaugurated more than 1,100 kilometers of roads on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, as part of his East Java visit. The government said the roads, spread across nearly all provinces, are expected to support food and energy self-sufficiency.
The roads are part of a presidential directive, popularly called the Presidential Directive on Local Roads (IJD). The Presidential Directive Number 11 of 2025 mandated construction and revitalization of road sections "supporting the productivity of agricultural, fisheries, plantation, industrial, and other productive areas, as well as supporting energy distribution to achieve food and energy self-sufficiency".
"This inauguration demonstrates the government's commitment to accelerating road infrastructure development to improve interregional connectivity, stimulate regional economic growth, and streamline the distribution of goods and services," the Presidential Secretariat said in a press release.
Prabowo inaugurated 1,151 kilometers of roads at the Kedungdung-Bringkoning road section in Sampang Regency, on East Java's Madura Island. He said he is "proudly and happily" welcoming the completion of the construction.

"Indonesia is a very large country, with vast territory and diverse geographical conditions. Transportation costs will be more affordable if there are sufficient roads and connectivity between all production centers and residential areas," Prabowo said.
Prabowo highlighted the government's commitment to leaving no region behind because of limited access, as well as lowering logistics costs. He said good roads are part of Indonesia's resilience strategy.
"Food self-sufficiency isn't just about seeds, fertilizer, and irrigation. Energy self-sufficiency isn't just about energy. It's also the result of a smooth and effective distribution network. Energy must be able to reach people in productive areas," Prabowo said.
Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, explained that road construction was carried out in 37 of 38 provinces, with the Special Region of Jakarta being the exception. According to him, this construction cost IDR 5.41 trillion (around US$302.8 million).
"We strictly monitor the quality of all of this work, ensuring it is carried out in a planned, measured, and accountable manner. Currently, it is 100% complete and ready for direct use by the people," he said.
