RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - In a joint meeting with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and several Red and White Cabinet ministers at the Merdeka Palace on Monday, June 22, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto evaluated national energy supply, coal availability for power plants, and measures to ensure reliable electricity services for the public.
Minister Bahlil said one of the main points of discussion was ensuring that national energy reserves remain safe. “Our energy security is above the minimum 20 days on average,” he noted after the meeting, as quoted on the State Secretariat’s official website.
The government is also reviewing coal supplies for state‑owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero). Minister Bahlil explained that PLN consumes about 154 million tons of coal annually, while government assignments to mining companies reach 180–190 million tons. PLN has contracted around 134 million tons for one year’s needs.
He added that supply volume is not a major issue, but challenges remain in securing medium‑calorie coal required for blending in power plants. “What PLN is asking for is medium‑calorie coal for mixing,” he said.
To anticipate supply disruptions and maintain electricity reliability, the government has taken steps, including supporting PLN’s fuel needs for generators and accelerating maintenance programs for electricity facilities.
The Energy Ministry has formed a coal procurement team involving PLN, the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal, the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), and the Inspectorate General to strengthen oversight of the energy supply chain.
“We have confirmed that there are no problems, and the government has helped PLN to run it. But beyond that, we ask PLN to immediately carry out maintenance so we can provide certainty of service to the community,” Minister Bahlil said.
During the meeting, President Prabowo instructed ministries and institutions to take measurable steps to ensure electricity services remain optimal and supply disruptions can be prevented early.
The meeting underscored the government’s focus on safeguarding energy supply, strengthening the national electricity system, and advancing downstreaming of natural resources as a foundation for economic growth and industrial transformation. ***
