RRI.CO.ID, Sigi - Indonesian Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo confirmed that his ministry is ready to support earthquake mitigation efforts in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. Measures include constructing temporary housing and repairing damaged infrastructure.
Minister Dody emphasized that the construction of temporary housing will follow requests submitted through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). “If local authorities want to build temporary housing, please contact BNPB, and then we will take it over,” he said during an inspection of the affected area on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The Ministry of Public Works has been building temporary housing in accordance with BNPB’s direction, as BNPB holds authority during the disaster emergency response period. To date, the ministry has not received an official request for temporary housing in Sigi.
He noted that the regional administration declared a 14‑day emergency response period from June 17 to 30, 2026. Therefore, all emergency measures, including the construction of temporary shelters, remain under BNPB coordination.
In addition to preparing temporary housing, Minister Dody instructed the Central Sulawesi National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) to conduct a thorough technical inspection of roads and bridges in the affected areas.
He issued the directive after feeling vibrations while standing on the Posu Nokilalaki Bridge as vehicles passed. “This kind of situation must be immediately followed up with a technical inspection so the public can be assured that the infrastructure they use every day is truly safe,” he said.
Dody stressed that infrastructure reliability is not only a technical matter but also a question of public safety and confidence. He urged his ministry to address not only visible damage but also potential risks that could cause public concern.
He also instructed the Sulawesi III River Basin Office (BWS) to survey upstream areas to assess post‑earthquake conditions and prepare measures to control water flow if necessary.
The government is ensuring that clean water services remain available during the recovery period. Minister Dody confirmed that the Kamarora Intake and Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Nokilalaki Subdistrict, the community’s source of drinking water, is operating normally.
“The Ministry of Public Works ensures that the Kamarora Intake and SPAM remain operational and ready to serve during the post‑disaster recovery period,” he said. (Misni Parjiati)
