RRI.CO.ID, Wonosobo - Indonesia's Vice Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa, expressed her appreciation for the 2026 Dieng Caldera Race, which she considered successful in combining sports, tourism, and local economic empowerment, while strengthening Wonosobo's position as a leading sports tourism destination in Indonesia.
"I express my appreciation to all parties who have contributed to the organization of the 2026 Dieng Caldera Race. The Caldera Race is more than just a running event, but rather an experience that combines sports, nature, and culture in one memorable event," Ni Luh Puspa said while presenting awards to the runners of the 2026 Dieng Caldera Race at the Tambi Tea Plantation in Wonosobo, Central Java, on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
She believes that organizing destination-based sporting events like the Dieng Caldera Race can encourage tourist movement, increase accommodation occupancy, and open business opportunities for MSMEs and the surrounding community.
According to her, Wonosobo, as the gateway to the Dieng Plateau, is one of Indonesia's tourism icons, offering a combination of beautiful volcanic landscapes, rich culture, and the hospitality of its people, which remains preserved to this day.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Sunday, June 21st 2026, through the 2026 Dieng Caldera Race, which features 10K, 25K, 45K, and 85K categories, participants from various regions in Indonesia and abroad are invited to enjoy the stunning natural landscape, from the Tambi Tea Plantation, Mount Sindoro, Sikendil Peak, to Mount Sibuthak.
"Ultimately, the Dieng Caldera Race is not just a running event, but also a highly effective tourism promotion tool. I extend my appreciation to the organizers and the Wonosobo Regency Government for their consistent support of this event," the Vice Minister said.
On this occasion, she also invited all participants to further explore the various tourist attractions in Wonosobo. One of these is the Tambi Tea Plantation agrotourism area, which offers the experience of enjoying expansive tea gardens while learning about the tea processing process at a factory that has existed since the Dutch colonial era.
"I just toured the Tambi Tea Factory. This agrotourism area is very promising because it offers an educational experience. After the race, runners can continue their journey with their families to enjoy an interesting educational tour," she said.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister explained that holding events like the Dieng Caldera Race not only serves as a means of destination promotion but also serves as an instrument to improve the quality of the destination while expanding economic benefits for the local community.
According to her, the success of an event is measured not only by the consistency of its implementation, but also by the significant impact it has on the local community.
"On another occasion, the Wonosobo Regent stated that every time the Dieng Caldera Race is held, all accommodations in Wonosobo are fully booked. In fact, a significant amount of investment in the hotel sector is now coming to Wonosobo. This is clear evidence that organizing events can stimulate the regional economy," she said.
Therefore, Ni Luh hopes that the Dieng Caldera Race will continue to develop as an icon of Indonesian sports tourism, attracting more domestic and international tourists.
