RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Construction of temporary housing (huntara) for disaster victims in several areas of Sumatra has reached 97 percent completion. This achievement was announced by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian after a meeting of the Steering Team of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra in Jakarta on 18 June 2026.

He stated that most disaster victims have now moved into government-provided housing. He added that local governments in several areas, including East Aceh, North Aceh, and Aceh Tamiang, reported that residents were no longer living in refugee tents.

In several locations in Central Aceh, for example, landslide mitigation, slope reinforcement, road repairs, and the construction of retaining walls continue to show progress. The Task Force requested that all work at critical points be completed more quickly to prevent further disruption to infrastructure serving as primary access for the community before the arrival of heavy rains at the end of the year.

Accelerations are also being made on various road and bridge projects connecting Central Aceh and Gayo Lues. Several sections previously severely damaged by landslides are now under repair, while river normalization and bank reinforcement continue in an integrated manner to reduce the risk of recurrent damage.

In the Gayo Lues area, attention is also being paid to the construction of river embankments, which serve to protect residential areas and agricultural land. Given the high rainfall intensity in the area, the Task Force requested that the work, originally targeted for completion in August, be expedited so that residents can receive protection before the peak of the rainy season.

Meanwhile, in the Ketambe area of Southeast Aceh Regency, the Task Force directly inspected the construction of flood control embankments, roads, and bridges that serve as primary access points for the community. These efforts demonstrate the commitment of all parties to ensuring that daily community activities, logistics distribution, and economic mobility can return to normal.

In Kutagaluh Village, Lawe Bulan District, the results of the river wall reinforcement work have begun to provide residents with a sense of security. The Task Force believes that community and local government support is a crucial factor in ensuring the smooth progress of all rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
