Lanud Suryadarma Harvests First Cavendish Bananas, Supports National Food Security Program

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Lanud R. Suryadi Suryadarma recorded the successful first harvest of Cavendish bananas on the agricultural land managed in Kalijati, Subang Regency, West Java. The program is part of the Indonesian Air Force's efforts to support national food security through the sustainable use of productive land.

The first harvest was conducted on a four-hectare plot planted with around 2,000 Cavendish banana trees since October 2025. After a growing period of about 270 days, the plants began to enter the harvest phase with an initial productivity of 500 kilograms and an estimated total yield of around 40 tons.

The Commander of Lanud Suryadarma, Marsekal Pertama TNI M.R.Y. Fahlefie, along with other senior Lanud officials, participated in the inaugural harvest at the location. According to him, this achievement demonstrates the commitment of the Indonesian Air Force in supporting the national food security program, which is also in line with the government's food sector development agenda.

"This tangible effort is not just for show, but to inspire all other TNI units," Fahlefie said in a statement received by RRI VOI, Thursday, 18 June 2026.

The entire process of cultivating Cavendish bananas is managed by the soldiers of the Production Unit at Lanud Suryadarma who have received integrated agricultural training. This management includes the planting, maintenance, and harvesting phases.

The success of this inaugural harvest is expected not only to support food security but also to provide economic value to the surrounding community through the development of a productive agricultural sector. This program is one of the contributions of the Indonesian Air Force in encouraging the optimal use of land to support community welfare and national food self-sufficiency.
