Indonesian Air Force Selects 32 Defense Attaché Candidates

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian Air Force (TNI Angkatan Udara) has begun selecting candidates for the Indonesian Defense Attache (Athan) and Air Attache (Atud) for the 2027–2030 assignment period. A total of 32 middle-ranking officers are participating in the selection process taking place at the Suharnoko Harbani Building, Jakarta, from 17 June to 30 June 2026.

The selection is part of the Indonesian Air Force's efforts to prepare the best personnel to carry out Indonesia's defense diplomacy tasks in various friendly countries. The participants will undergo a series of assessment stages, including administrative selection, English proficiency tests, psychological examinations, mental health evaluations, general health checks, physical fitness tests, security vetting, and final interviews.

The selection was opened by by the Assistant Intelligence Chief of Staff of the Air Force (Asintel Kasau), Marsda TNI Jatmiko Adi. In his remarks, he emphasized that the RI Defense Attaché and the Defense Attache have a strategic role in supporting Indonesia's foreign policy through defense diplomacy.

According to him, the officers who will be selected later will not only be tasked with building and strengthening defense cooperation with partner nations, but also representing Indonesia's interests abroad.

"The selected RI Athan and Atud must be able to implement foreign policy, especially in the field of defense diplomacy, and become the voice of our country's foreign policy stance," Jatmiko Adi said in a press release received by RRI VOI, Thursday, 18 June 2026.

He added that a defense attaché and an air attaché are also required to have communication skills, strategic understanding, and astuteness regarding developments in the security and defense environment of the host country.

Therefore, participants are requested to follow all stages of the selection process optimally and maintain their health and physical readiness throughout the process.

Through this selection, the Indonesian Air Force hopes to produce personnel who are professional, competent, and capable of strengthening Indonesia's position in building defense relations and international cooperation with various partner countries.
