RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The government is committed to developing the digital economy as a driver of national growth. Valued at around USD 100 billion, Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to surge to USD 360 billion by 2030, making it crucial to strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem.

Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stressed that digital economic development cannot simply focus on expanding access and connectivity. It must also generate added value domestically.

“Indonesia has become the largest digital economy in ASEAN, but our challenge now is to ensure this growth truly becomes a sustainable economic force,” Minister Meutya said at the Asia Economic Summit in South Jakarta on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.

She explained that strengthening the digital economy requires adopting new technologies, developing local platforms, and empowering businesses to enter the digital value chain.

Indonesia has significant potential to accelerate its digital economy, with 281 million people, 220 million internet users, and USD 55 billion in foreign investment last year. However, Minister Meutya emphasized that this potential must be translated into higher productivity.

The government is promoting a strategy to strengthen the digital ecosystem, aimed at improving efficiency in the real sector, expanding market access for small businesses, and accelerating the integration of digital services across economic sectors.

“Digital transformation must open new economic opportunities and not just expand the use of technology. MSMEs, fishermen, and farmers must be part of a more productive digital economy,” she said.

Minister Meutya added that the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) should enhance competitiveness, accelerate innovation, and encourage more inclusive growth. Through this policy, the government hopes the digital economy will become a leading sector and a key driver of Indonesia’s future economic growth. ***
