President Prabowo Skips ASEAN-Russia Summit for Domestic Priorities

RRI.CO.ID, Bogor - Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto will not attend the ASEAN–Russia Summit in Kazan, Russia, choosing instead to focus on completing key domestic agendas.

“He certainly has specific reasons. There are many domestic issues that he wants to prioritize,” Minister Prasetyo said at the Garuda Yaksa Padepokan in Hambalang, Bogor, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

He explained that the decision was made after considering ongoing national programs, with the government currently focusing on overseeing several priority initiatives.

“Furthermore, he met with senior ASEAN leaders in the Philippines a couple of weeks ago, and they discussed many things,” Minister Prasetyo added.

According to him, various strategic discussions on the ASEAN region took place at that forum, and the results are now being followed up by relevant ministries and institutions.

Minister Prasetyo emphasized that Indonesia’s bilateral relations with Russia remain strong. He noted that President Prabowo had previously met Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss strategic partnerships.

“Some of these cooperation commitments are already in place. Several discussions have been followed up on,” he said.

The ASEAN–Russia Summit is scheduled for June 17, 2026, in Kazan, Russia, bringing together leaders from ASEAN and Russia to discuss regional issues and cooperation in economic and strategic fields.

The Indonesian government stressed that President Prabowo’s absence from the summit will not affect Indonesia’s relations with Russia. Agreed cooperation agendas will continue through existing diplomatic and technical channels. (Misni Parjiati)
