RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Indonesia’s Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, has reaffirmed his commitment to easing the economic burden on households through the expansion of subsidized food market programs. The initiative aims to provide affordable basic necessities directly to communities, particularly those affected by rising living costs.
Speaking during a visit to Cihelang Village in Bandung Regency, West Java, on Tuesday, Cucun said the government would continue intensifying low-cost market operations at the village level. As quoted by dpr.go.id, he emphasized that direct distribution is intended to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.
According to the lawmaker, a proactive approach allows aid programs to be delivered more effectively than through lengthy administrative channels. He said direct engagement with local communities helps reduce the risk of mistargeted assistance.
Cucun noted that many households, particularly homemakers, continue to face challenges in meeting daily needs amid fluctuations in food prices. He expressed hope that affordable market programs would help ease financial pressures on families.
The deputy speaker also stressed the importance of maintaining food price stability and preventing speculative practices that could drive prices higher. He said authorities would continue monitoring market conditions to protect consumers from excessive price increases.
Following strong public participation in the program, Cucun called for greater government intervention to safeguard purchasing power. He proposed increasing food assistance packages and strengthening cooperation among relevant institutions.
The initiative is expected to involve coordination with the National Food Agency, the state logistics agency Bulog, and local food security offices across West Java. The collaboration aims to improve food accessibility and support vulnerable households.
Cucun also encouraged lawmakers and local governments to organize affordable food markets on a regular basis across districts and villages. He said expanding the program could help strengthen food security, control inflation, and maintain purchasing power amid ongoing global economic uncertainties.
