RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s forestry governance transformation is entering a new phase as the Ministry of Forestry accelerates data integration and digitization to strengthen oversight of forest areas and streamline licensing services.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni emphasized that these system improvements aim to build a more transparent, accountable, and data-driven governance framework. The measures are also intended to foster a predictable investment climate while expediting the permitting process.
“Anyone can do business more easily and conveniently. Incoming investments will be more predictable, and we are simplifying the approval process to prevent future issues,” Minister Raja Juli said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
One of the tools developed by the Ministry is the Jaga Rimba Forestry Decision Support System (DSS), a digital platform designed to address increasingly complex challenges in monitoring forest areas.
According to Minister Raja Juli, the Jaga Rimba DSS integrates cross-directorate-general applications, thematic geospatial data, and regulations related to forest areas, permits, and rights and obligations holders. This integration enables more comprehensive analysis and decision-making.
“So, the idea is simple, but I believe it holds historical urgency for improving our performance. It’s not just about the application itself. This is about changing our mindset. We can no longer afford sectoral egos,” he said.
The Jaga Rimba DSS also serves as the foundation for implementing the One Map Forestry Policy. Currently, the system is supported by 82 thematic geospatial datasets from 24 echelon II work units and 123 rules and relations, producing more accurate analyses.
In addition, the system features an Early Warning System that can detect potential permit overlaps, overlapping applications, and hotspots that risk triggering forest and land fires. This feature is expected to accelerate data-driven mitigation efforts.
“Although this application is not yet perfect, our simple intention is to protect our forests, preserve our wilderness, and safeguard our lives as a nation,” said Minister Raja Juli. ***
