RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Daniel Blockert, believes that relations between Indonesia and Sweden continue to expand through a range of strategic partnerships. They are particularly in education, research, healthcare, sustainable energy, and the creative industries.
Speaking to RRI Voice of Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday June 10, 2026, Blockert conveyed interest among Indonesian students in pursuing higher education in Sweden continues to rise. According to him, the number of Indonesian students studying in Sweden has been reaching new record highs year after year.
“We have many Indonesian students coming to Sweden. The number is actually breaking records; every year we set a new record, and they come from all over the country,” Blockert said.
He also explained that cooperation between Indonesian and Swedish universities goes beyond student exchanges. The partnership also includes joint research initiatives and human resource development through various academic programs, including doctoral education.
According to the Ambassador, several research fields have become key areas of collaboration between the two countries. Forestry, environmental studies, artificial intelligence (AI), and energy are among the sectors considered to have significant potential for further development by researchers from both Indonesia and Sweden.
Beyond education and research, Sweden also sees strong opportunities to expand cooperation in sustainable development. Green transportation, sustainable mining, healthcare, and energy are among the sectors with promising prospects for future collaboration.
In the energy sector, Blockert said Sweden is working closely with the Indonesian government and several universities to promote the development of sustainable energy sources. He noted that the energy transition has become one of the main priorities in bilateral cooperation.
“Energy is a major issue here, both in terms of supply and in finding sustainable energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and blue energy,” he said. He added that the partnership also aims to improve energy access in regions that still face electricity supply challenges, including parts of eastern Indonesia.
Beyond education and economic cooperation, Blockert also sees tremendous potential for Indonesia in the music and creative industries. He believes many Indonesian musicians have the talent to reach international audiences, making cultural cooperation and talent exchanges promising avenues for further strengthening ties between Indonesia and Sweden in the years ahead.
