RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - International tourist arrivals in Indonesia from January through April 2026 reached 4.68 million, an 8.24 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This marks the highest achievement since 2020.
The Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Pudji Ismartini, said the positive trend shows the national tourism sector continues to recover and grow strongly. “The number of international tourist visits from January to April this year is the highest since 2020,” Pudji stated in a press release on Friday, June 5.
BPS reported that most international tourists entered Indonesia by air. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali served as the main gateway, recording about 2 million visits in the first four months of 2026.
In addition to rising tourist arrivals, BPS also noted improvements in the accommodation sector. The national hotel Room Occupancy Rate (ROR) in April 2026 stood at 37.08 percent, up 3.80 percentage points from March and 0.33 points from April last year.
For star-rated hotels, the ROR in April reached 48.83 percent. Bali recorded the highest occupancy rate at 57.94 percent, followed by Jakarta at 54.80 percent and West Kalimantan at 53.76 percent. The lowest rates were in Aceh (24.35 percent), Central Papua (29.58 percent), and Bangka Belitung (30.39 percent).
Cumulatively, star-rated hotel occupancy from January to April 2026 reached 46.01 percent, up 2.07 points year-on-year. The sharpest increases were in West Papua (13.38 points), West Kalimantan (10.47 points), and Maluku (7.35 points).
Meanwhile, non-star hotels and other accommodations recorded an occupancy rate of 24.96 percent in April 2026. Jakarta posted the highest rate at 38.09 percent, followed by Riau Islands (35.11 percent) and Bali (34.81 percent). The lowest was in Papua Pegunungan (9.62 percent).
From January to April 2026, non-star hotel occupancy averaged 23.75 percent, up 0.51 points from the same period last year. The largest increases were in West Papua (7.72 points), Gorontalo (6.38 points), and North Sulawesi (4.88 points). Conversely, Bali saw the steepest decline (4.72 points), followed by Jakarta (3.47 points) and Banten (2.47 points).
These BPS figures confirm that the recovery of Indonesia’s tourism sector is ongoing, supported by rising foreign tourist arrivals and improving hotel occupancy across regions. (Gusti Panji)
