RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Residents across Sumatra can now breathe a sigh of relief after enduring network disruptions. Telecommunications services, which had been completely paralyzed due to a massive power blackout, have now been restored.
According to data cited from a written press release by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs on May 28, 2026, all sites or BTS in the affected areas are now functioning normally. Network conditions are reported to remain stable with no further communication access issues for residents.
The Ministry confirmed that the process of normalizing digital infrastructure has been fully completed. Internet and telephone networks are now accessible to the public without interruption.
“The recovery rate has remained at 100% since it was achieved on May 28, 2026, at 12:00 AM Western Indonesian Time, and has remained stable until 9:00 AM,” the Ministry of Communication and Digital stated.
Previously, this network outage had disrupted various daily activities for the public in Sumatra. The peak of the severe disruption occurred when tens of thousands of signal transmission towers went offline simultaneously.
There were approximately 10,713 site outages spread across 10 provinces. The affected areas included 142 regencies and cities throughout the island of Sumatra.
These conditions temporarily left residents cut off from access to digital information and communication. Recovery efforts on the ground were temporarily hampered by subsequent power outages in Aceh.
Nevertheless, swift action was immediately taken to restore residents’ right to communication access. The government has pledged to maintain strict oversight of network stability in Sumatra.
The Ministry emphasized, “The Ministry of Communication and Digital Information will continue to monitor the situation to anticipate potential further disruptions.”
