Extreme Weather Hits Several Regions: BNPB

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) saw a series of disasters linked to extreme weather conditions across several regions on 27-28 May 2026, amid the transition into the dry season. The agency said weather conditions ranging from low to high rainfall intensity, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, affected parts of Banten, Jakarta, and South Kalimantan.

As quote by BNPB's press release on Thursday, May 28, 2026, strong winds struck Sawah Baru Subdistrict in Tangerang on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, affecting 40 households. According to the local disaster mitigation agency, two houses sustained moderate damage while 38 others suffered minor damage?.he same day in Jakarta, heavy rain hit the capital city, flooding 343 houses across South Jakarta. Meanwhile, in South Kalimantan, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds affected Benua Anyar Village in Astambul District and Pematang Baru Village in East Martapura District, Banjar Regency, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The incident affected 11 households or 35 residents, while 31 houses were reported damaged.

"Local disaster mitigation officials continued cleanup operations and data collection on Wednesday," the agency stated.

BNPB then urged the public to remain alert for potential disasters triggered by extreme weather during the seasonal transition. This includes strong winds, heavy rain, whirlwinds, floods, and high waves.

The agency also reminded residents to stay vigilant against possible geological disasters such as earthquakes and encouraged communiisepare emergency disaster kits.
