RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Ahead of Eid al‑Adha, the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) is tightening its monitoring of livestock traffic at entry points to Java Island.

Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding inspected quarantine measures for 275 sacrificial cattle from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), at Port Kade 108 in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

Jakarta Quarantine officers conducted rigorous checks, including verification of health documents, physical and clinical examinations, and inspections of transport fleets to ensure compliance with animal welfare standards during distribution.

Karding stressed the importance of biosecurity, noting that Java remains a red zone for foot‑and‑mouth disease (FMD), while NTT is a green zone free of FMD. “I have ordered all staff to implement a one‑way ticket policy. Cattle that land in Java cannot return to NTT unless they are sold,” he said.

Barantin is also monitoring the possible entry of legally protected productive female cattle and ensuring that livestock ages meet requirements for qurban, or animal sacrifice.

Jakarta Quarantine Head Amir Hasanuddin said cattle passing inspection will be distributed to areas including Depok, Bekasi, and Pekanbaru through certification and special transit documents. “Barantin is collaborating with livestock and animal health services in the destination areas. We will continue to monitor the slaughtering process,” Amir added.

Operational data shows that from January to May 21, 2026, 2,837 local cattle entered Tanjung Priok.

Nationally, Barantin’s Best Trust system recorded rising livestock traffic ahead of Eid al‑Adha. From January to April 2026, cattle exports reached 198,925 head, a 70 percent increase compared to the same period last year, with Lampung, Bali, NTB, NTT, and East Java as the largest export regions. Goat and sheep exports totaled 103,216, up 77 percent from 2025.

To prevent the spread of FMD, lumpy skin disease (LSD), and anthrax, Barantin has developed five strategies: evaluating livestock distribution patterns, infrastructure readiness, regulations, cross‑sector synergy, and intensive supervision. “We have formed a task force that conducts 24‑hour surveillance, patrols illegal routes, and monitors animal health in temporary shelters,” Karding said.

The agency enforces strict quarantine measures if document violations or signs of disease are detected. (Misni Parjiati)
