RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, emphasized that Indonesia continues to implement an active defensive defense strategy amid the increasing dynamics of global geopolitics and international security uncertainties.
Sjafrie conveyed this during a working meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Nusantara II Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
In his presentation, Sjafrie stated that Indonesia's defense policy remains based on an independent and active foreign policy as well as national interests. According to him, an active defensive strategy is an important part of maintaining the country's sovereignty without having offensive ambitions toward other countries.
"We do not have offensive ambitions, neither toward neighboring countries nor regional countries." But we only maintain and safeguard the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. "But of course, as a sovereign nation, we must strengthen ourselves," Sjafrie conveyed.
He also emphasized that all national defense strategies remain anchored in the constitution and national interests in facing various global security dynamics.
"All of our country's active defensive defense strategies are based on the constitution and national interests," he said.
In addition to discussing national defense strategies, the working meeting also highlighted the deployment of Indonesian peacekeeping forces in the Middle East.
Sjafrie ensured that the safety of the Indonesian UNIFIL Task Force troops in Lebanon is the government's top priority thru close coordination between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
