RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) praised and fully supported the Indonesian Police (Polri) over the successful dismantling of an international online gambling network involving 320 people from various countries. The network was uncovered during arrests in Central Jakarta on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
Chairman of the House's Commission III, Habiburokhman, stated that the case represents a serious threat to society and national social resilience. He, leading a commission dealing with law, human rights, and security sectors at the House, conveyed that the operation demonstrates the police’s commitment to enforcing the law professionally and protecting the public from the destructive effects of online gambling, which damages morality, family finances, and the future of younger generations.
“The eradication of online gambling is also in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita agenda, particularly in strengthening legal reform, maintaining national security stability, and creating a healthy and productive digital space for the Indonesian people,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, referring to the current government’s eight national missions.
He also mentioned that the Commission views online gambling as having evolved into an organized transnational crime that exploits digital technology, involves large financial flows, and has the potential to trigger other crimes such as money laundering and fraud. Therefore, the commission said it must be handled seriously, consistently, and comprehensively.
“We urge the police to continue taking action against the masterminds, bookmakers, operators, and any parties facilitating online gambling activities without discrimination,” the politician from the Prabowo-led Gerindra Party said.
In addition, Habiburokhman said that law enforcement must be carried out professionally, transparently, and continuously. This is intended to create a deterrent effect and break the chain of online gambling practices in the nation.
“We also encourage stronger synergy among ministries and institutions, including tighter oversight of the financial system, immigration, and national cyberspace, to prevent Indonesia from becoming an operational base for international digital crime,” he said.
