Vice Minister Irene: Creative Economy the Future of the Nation

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, affirmed that the creative economy is Indonesia's future economic strength. She made the statement at the Business Insight Seminar "The Creative Economy Imperative: Why Leaders Who Unlock Creativity Win" at ILEAD SUMMIT 2026 at Erajaya Corporate University, Jakarta, Monday, May 11, 2026.
Irene stated that achieving this goal requires cross-sector collaboration, including through a technology distribution and retail ecosystem like Erajaya Swasembada. "The creative economy is the future of economic growth. Natural resources may be depleted, but creativity is limitless.
According to a press release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 that a sustainable creative economy is driven by ideas, creativity, and innovation, supported by valid technology. The most crucial factor is how these ideas or initiatives can be developed through business execution and have a creative impact," Irene said.
The Vice Minister added that collaboration can be achieved through a hexahelix approach involving stakeholders, business players, academicians and others. Each party has a crucial role in uniting the strength of a creativity-based economy that can create added value for Indonesia.
"Impossible to do it ourselves; hexahelix collaboration is the key. To unite the nation and progress together, we must begin exploring the digital market for Indonesian products and creative works. Moreover, Indonesia has a source code or unique selling point in the form of culture that no other country possesses," he said.
At the event, themed "Ignite Creative Edge," the Vice Minister also outlined various achievements in Indonesia's creative economy subsectors, ranging from animation, games, digital applications, music, sustainable fashion, to local intellectual property (IP) that is now gaining recognition internationally.
Meanwhile, Erajaya Deputy Group CEO, Hasan Aula, expressed his appreciation for the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy's presence. He noted many new perspectives on the importance of creativity as part of a business strategy build opportunities for the creative industry.
"ILEAD SUMMIT 2026 is a crucial opportunity for Erajaya to enhance leadership, innovation, and creativity across all levels of the company. The creative economy is also a key engine capable of creating differentiation to accelerate business growth consistently and measurably. We see many opportunities for collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy that can strengthen the creative industry in Indonesia," Hasan Aula said.
He explained the creative economy has become more than just a hobby, but contributes to national economic growth. According to him, this Business Insight Seminar also bridges innovation and appreciation for strengthening digitalization and developing a superior technology ecosystem in terms of leadership to win global competition.
