RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - Efforts to prepare the site for a Nuclear Power Plant in Indonesia continue to be carried out carefully and scientifically. To strengthen the geophysical aspects, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) held a technical discussion at the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Building in Jakarta.

It is to align perceptions and deepen the geological study of the candidate site. In a press release received by RRI VOI from BRIN on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, stated that the entire study process was conducted objectively, professionally, and based on scientific data.

"The analysis must be based on field facts and a scientific approach, as part of the initial evaluation of the site's geological conditions," she said.

In the forum, the Geological Agency team presented their experience with field surveys conducted in two phases. The studies covered various important parameters, including soil and rock conditions, earthquake potential, volcanic activity, liquefaction, tsunamis, and potential for landslides.

Syaiful Bakhri, Head of the Nuclear Energy Research Organization (ORTN) at BRIN, emphasized the importance of synchronization between institutions at this early stage. "Currently, the evaluation of several sites is still preliminary or desk evaluation. Therefore, it is important for us to have a common understanding," he explained.

Echoing this sentiment, Maman Kartaman, Head of the Research Center for Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Waste Technology at BRIN, stated that geological studies need to be conducted continuously. "These geological studies need to be conducted intensively and continuously to deepen all the criteria," he said.

He further explained that the study of the Nuclear Power Plant site is not limited to geological aspects but also includes other factors, such as meteorology, oceanography, and other supporting technical aspects. To ensure methodology compliance with international standards, BRIN is also open to consultations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
