RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, affirmed that protecting children in the digital space is a government priority. She made the statement during her visit to Pondok Pesantren Qomarul Huda, Central Lombok, Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

According to her, strengthening child protection in the digital space is an pivotal part of implementing government policy thru the Government Regulation on Governance and Child Protection in the Digital Space (PP TUNAS).

"We must not be complacent. Digital platforms are indeed enjoyable, but their impact is very serious on our children's behavior, concentration, and safety." Therefore, the government is firmly implementing the TUNAS Regulation," Meutya conveyed.

She highlighted the real threats that have already occurred, including radicalization recruitment thru online games revealed by the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).

"Children are being targeted." This is no longer a hypothetical threat, but a danger that has already occurred right before our eyes. Islamic boarding schools must become the frontline bastions that robustly protect the younger generation," the minister stated.

She emphasized the importance of age limits and shared discipline in using technology wisely.

"Age 16 is a more mature threshold for distinguishing between what is good and what is dangerous." This rule must be followed consistently, without compromise. We must not allow children to freely access age-inappropriate platforms," Meutya said.

Minister Meutya also conveyed that technology is an extraordinary ally if used wisely and responsibly. "The internet can be used to seek knowledge and learn. Let's encourage children to make more use of technology for positive things and self-development," she said.
