RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) announced that the Wikimedia Foundation has officially registered as a private Electronic System Provider (ESP).

Director General of Digital Space Supervision (Dirjen PRD) Alexander Sabar said Kemkomdigi will normalize access to Wikimedia services. “Wikimedia Foundation has completed its registration. We are currently processing the normalization of Wikipedia access,” Alexander said in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The normalization process follows the completion of the Foundation’s registration as an ESP operating in Indonesia. The government welcomed Wikimedia’s compliance with Indonesian regulations. “We appreciate the Wikimedia Foundation’s efforts to fulfill its registration obligations in accordance with applicable provisions,” he said.

Registration as an ESP is an administrative requirement for digital platforms operating in Indonesia. It aims to ensure orderly, transparent, and accountable governance of electronic systems.

Alexander stressed that all oversight and law enforcement processes are carried out in line with procedures and applicable laws. He emphasized that registration establishes responsibility for operational implementation under statutory provisions.

“Every electronic system operator is responsible for the services and features they provide in Indonesia. Registration clarifies the responsible parties and creates a coordination mechanism for implementing statutory provisions,” Alexander said. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
