RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a downward trend in inflation in April 2026, including in the volatile food price group. This condition indicates a decrease in food price pressures after the National Religious Holidays (HBKN) of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, in line with the normalization of public demand.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, explained that several strategic food commodities were the main contributors to the decline in inflation during that period, including broiler chicken, chicken eggs, bird's eye chili, and red chili.

"The inflation rate for the food, beverage, and tobacco group is generally lower in the post-HBKN period, in line with the normalization of public demand," Ateng Hartono stated in Jakarta, Monday, May 4, 2026.

BPS noted that broiler chicken meat experienced a change from 3.30 percent inflation in March to 6.20 percent deflation in April. Broiler chicken eggs also reversed from 2.34 percent inflation to 4.29 percent deflation in the same period.

Meanwhile, cayenne pepper experienced deflation of 14.98 percent, and red chili decreased by 2.59 percent on a monthly basis. With these developments, annual food inflation also decreased from 4.24 percent in March to 3.37 percent in April 2026. This figure remains within the government's target range of 3 to 5 percent.

Previously, the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Andi Amran Sulaiman, who is also the Minister of Agriculture, expressed appreciation for the stability of food prices after Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

"Alhamdulillah, prices are relatively stable and all food items are relatively stable. This is shown by BPS data," Amran said in Makassar, South Sulawesi, May 2, 2026.
