Government Materializes a Regionally Based Creative Economy to Address Poverty

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Government continues to work to alleviate poverty by creating jobs in various sectors, including the creative economy and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The Coordinating Minister for Human Development, Muhaimin Iskandar, made the statement after a ministerial meeting at the MBloc Space area, South Jakarta, Monday May 4, 2026.

He also stated that the government is targeting 10 million workers in various sectors by 2029, including those working in business and the creative economy.

"It is our responsibility to massively mobilize efforts to alleviate extreme poverty and alleviate poverty through MSME and creative economy activities," Muhaimin said.

The Minister is also optimistic that the presence of the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Ministry of MSMEs will further open up job opportunities for the Indonesian people. This way, the set targets can be realized.

Equally, Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, stated that the Ministry is ready to facilitate creative entrepreneurship, especially for underprivileged groups, so they can develop. Moreover, creative economy activists continue to grow in various regions.

"Creative economy activists are growing, not only in big cities but also in various villages and sub-districts, from Sabang to Merauke. They are all talented, and we continue to provide opportunities for them to advance," he said.

According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Ministry of Creative Economy also continuously activates creative villages and collaborate with local governments and various parties to create a creative economy as a new engine of growth in the regions.

"So, the President's (Prabowo Subianto) directive is to identify existing potential, not only at the central level but also at the regional level," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Minister of MSMEs, Maman Abdurrahman, stated that ministerial collaboration is a strategic step in alleviating poverty in Indonesia. In this regard, the Ministry of MSMEs is also aligned with the Coordinating Ministry for Prime Minister regarding the opening of public spaces as venues for MSMEs.

"Collaborative use of public facilities creates gathering spaces for young people, MSMEs, and the creative economy sector," Maman said.

The ministerial-level meeting was held in the Blok M area of South Jakarta. This location was chosen to provide first-hand experience with best practices in the field in realizing a region-based economy. Visits and informal dialogues were held with tenants to gather input from business actors.

With an average of 80,000 visitors per day and an economic turnover of around Rp5 billion, the Blok M area is considered a good practice ready to be replicated.
