RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi – The Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is pursuing legal proceedings on the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and a KRL Commuterline commuter train at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday, April 27, 2026, which resulted in dozens of fatalities. Investigators have questioned 31 witnesses to determine the exact cause of the incident.

"Investigators have asked for information from 31 witnesses," Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

Witnesses who have been questioned include the victims, taxi drivers, crossing guards, Argo Bromo Anggrek train drivers, KRL train drivers, and operational officers of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero).

In addition, investigators plan to summon a number of other related parties. This includes representatives from the local government, a taxi company involved, and the Directorate General of Railways at the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation to complete the investigation.

Budi explained that the case has now entered the investigation stage. Several steps have been taken, including processing the crime scene, collecting evidence, reviewing CCTV footage, coordinating with hospitals regarding victim treatment, requesting a post-mortem, and examining witnesses and other related parties.

"The next step, investigators will continue to examine statements from various parties to obtain a complete and objective picture of the incident," he explained.

The Monday night collision resulted in 16 people dying and dozens of others being injured. Indonesia's president, Prabowo Subianto, has committed to repairing thousands of ungated railway crossings across the country, whether by installing a gate or constructing a flyover.

Initial information told that the incident began when a taxi experienced problems and stopped at a level crossing. The vehicle was then hit by a passing commuter train, triggering a series of accidents involving long-distance trains.
