RRI.CO.ID, Madinah - An Indonesian Hajj pilgrim from KJT-14 (Kertajati embarkation), passed away upon arrival in Saudi Arabia. The update was delivered in Madinah on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The incident highlights the importance of readiness in handling arriving pilgrims with varying physical conditions. Each pilgrim arrives after a long journey that may affect their health condition.
A 73-year-old pilgrim identified as SMP from Kertajati embarkation group KJT-14 was reported deceased. The pilgrim experienced a decline in health condition while at the airport area.
Head of Airport Working Area, Abdul Basir, explained the pilgrim lost consciousness during immigration procedures. Officers immediately provided initial treatment and referred the pilgrim to the airport clinic.
“Pilgrim SMP, aged 73, from Kertajati embarkation KJT-14, experienced decreased consciousness during immigration. Once detected, officers immediately handled the situation and brought the pilgrim to the airport clinic,” he said.
After initial treatment, the pilgrim was referred to Mouwasat Hospital in Madinah for further care. However, the pilgrim was later declared deceased after receiving medical treatment.
Basir stated that no specific medical history was found based on initial available data. The pilgrim had met health eligibility requirements and was cleared for departure this year.
He emphasized that health services at arrival points must remain alert and responsive at all times. Physical conditions may change suddenly due to long travel, fatigue, and arrival processes.
“Although pilgrims meet health requirements, their condition must still be closely monitored. Long journeys and fatigue can affect their physical condition, requiring quick response from officers,” he said.
