RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said visits to museums and cultural heritage sites managed by Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture increased by 400 percent in 2025. He delivered the statement to reporters after launching the nationwide creative video competition Me & My Culture in Jakarta on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Fadli said the increase reflected stronger public awareness and interest in Indonesia’s historical and cultural assets. He added that the government aims to sustain the momentum through new programs that combine culture with digital participation.

One of those initiatives is the newly launched video contest, which invites students, university students, and the general public to create content about museums, heritage landmarks, and local cultural treasures. “We want to encourage people to create creative content in digital spaces,” Fadli said.

Participants are free to explore topics ranging from museum collections and historical narratives to archaeological values and local traditions. The ministry hopes the contest will generate fresh storytelling about Indonesia’s rich and diverse heritage.

The competition is being held across three major social media platforms: Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Officials said these channels were chosen to reach younger audiences and maximize public engagement online.

Fadli noted that well-known destinations such as Borobudur Temple and other cultural sites have continued to record rising visitor numbers. He said the trend shows museums and heritage attractions are becoming increasingly relevant to domestic travelers and students.

The contest runs from May 4 to July 15, 2026, with judging supported by museum associations, film communities, and creative industry representatives. Entries are expected to be original, engaging, and capable of spreading positive cultural messages.

The ministry expects the program to strengthen cultural literacy and encourage more people to visit museums and heritage sites nationwide. Officials also indicated similar creative competitions could be introduced in the future.
