RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) announced that it has rehabilitated 112 children exposed to radicalism and terrorism. BNPT head Comr. Gen. (Ret.) Eddy Hartono delivered the statement during a meeting at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.

Eddy explained that the rehabilitation process uses an approach targeting those closest to the children. In addition to family members, the program also involves figures familiar with and trusted by each child.

He said the method aims not only to address the children directly but also to neutralize the influence of people in their immediate environment. The rehabilitation program is carried out in collaboration with various ministries and state agencies.

“So, basically, we focus on the child’s immediate environment first, to ensure they don’t continue to be exposed,” Eddy told reporters in Jakarta on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Eddy revealed that the children had been exposed to radicalism and terrorism while playing online games, specifically mentioning the platform Roblox.

He explained that the exposure occurred through direct communication with unknown players. The game’s chat features were exploited by perpetrators to build emotional connections.

“This is where it can be used as a tool, what we call digital grooming. Later, they are invited to other platforms, and that’s where, in psychological terms, the normalization of behavior occurs, meaning that’s where doctrines are instilled,” he added. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
