Commemoration of May 2: National Education Day

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Every year on May 2nd, Indonesia commemorates National Education Day. In 2026, the commemoration falls on a Saturday.

The commemoration is set based on the birthday of the national education pioneer, Ki Hadjar Dewantara. He was born on May 2, 1889.

Ki Hadjar Dewantara is known for his ideas about liberating education and character building. His thoughts have become an important foundation in the Indonesian education system to this day.

The commemoration of National Education Day aims at honorhonoring the contributions of education heroes and underscore the importance of education for the nation. The commemoration of National Education Day was established based on Presidential Decree Number 316 of 1959.

The Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has released the guidelines for the National Education Day 2026 logo, which reflects the direction of national education transformation. This introduce logo was introduced as a symbol of the spirit of inclusive and sustainable education.

In the official statement published on Monday, April 27, 2026, the National Education Day 2026 logo represents three priority programs: the revitalization of educational units, the digitalization of learning, and the improvement of teacher welfare.

Philosophically, the logo features a dynamic blue human figure. This element symbolizes the active participation of all members of society in realizing quality education for all.
