RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian authorities investigate the train collisions surrounding Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi, West Java, a few days earlier, that resulted in 16 deaths. One of them is the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya), the local police over Bekasi, on Thursday, April 30, 2026, who questioned a number of individuals.
Head of Public Relations at the police, Senior Commissioner of Police Budi Hermanto, stated that seven railway personnel had been questioned at Manggarai Station, Jakarta. Those questioned include the signaling officer and the driver of the long-distance train Argo Bromo Anggrek that collided with a KRL Commuterline commuter train.
"There are 7 people who were questioned," Budi said, as quoted from the Indonesian National Police's news website.
Other person questioned are the head of the railway control center, a train trip regulatory officer, and the KRL Commuterline driver. The long-distance train driver's assistant and the controller are also investigated.
According to him, the investigation process is still ongoing. The investigation is being carried out to investigate whether there was human error in the incident.
Budi also said that a taxi driver suspected of triggering the incident had been questioned as well. He stated that the investigation revealed that he had just started working as a driver.
"Based on the statements of the online taxi drivers who were questioned, the person concerned has only been working since April 25, 2026," he conveyed.
The incident on Monday, April 27, 2026, allegedly began when a commuter train struck a stalled electric taxi at an ungated railway crossing, preventing another commuter train from departing at Bekasi Timur Station before a long-distance train struck it from behind. Indonesia's president, Prabowo Subianto, has committed to repairing thousands of ungated railway crossings across the country, whether by installing a gate or constructing a flyover.
Meanwhile, the Director of Traffic at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Komarudin, stated that investigators are currently only investigating the accident between a commuter train and an electric taxi. He explained that the accident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the commuter train at East Bekasi Station will be handled by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
"We are focusing on the vehicle (taxi) at the level crossing," he said on Thursday. Komarudin said that, in the taxi accident, his team had conducted a Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) to investigate the alleged negligence that caused the accident.
He stated that it was not yet possible to determine whether the car, the driver, or other factors caused the crash; however, he confirmed that the accident occurred at a level crossing.
"It could be human error, it could be a road factor, it could be a vehicle factor. This is still under review or research by the TAA team. We are focusing on the level crossing case, the initial incident of the crash between the train and the taxi. This is where we will reveal the four factors that caused the accident," he said.
