RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency bolsters the exposure of student animation works by supporting the WAINI International Student Animation Festival Vol. 6 in Yogyakarta. This step is part of the Ministry's strategy to make the animation subsector a new engine of national economic growth.
Data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM recorded that the value of the film, animation, and video sector reached IDR 2.15 trillion in 2025. This figure demonstrates significant potential for creating added value and creating jobs.
Cecep Rukendi, Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy, believes this festival is an important platform for expanding the reach of young creators' work. He believes the animation ecosystem needs to be strengthened through collaboration between communities, universities, and creative industry players.
"The Ministry of Creative Economy appreciates WAINI as a space for young talent to showcase their work and reach a wider audience. Momentum like this brings creators together and opens up opportunities for sustainable collaboration," Cecep said.
According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Friday, May 1, 2026 in Jakarta that WAINI Vol. 6 is presenting a new identity as the International Student Animation Festival, carrying the theme "ENTRAPHORIA" with the tagline "Animating Connection, One Story at a Time."
The festival will run from April 30 to May 3, 2026, at the Concert Hall and Multipurpose Building of the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta.
In organizing its event, WAINI Vol. 6 collaborates with various parties, including government agencies, educational institutions, and international partners, including Bank Indonesia, SAE Indonesia, Gobelins Paris, and IFI Yogyakarta.
The festival features a variety of main programs, from screenings and discussions of national and international films to exhibitions of illustrations and interactive installations such as zoetrope animation and grid barrier animation, to a storyboard corner and traditional animation showreel.

Educational programs such as SKENI (Sekolah Bareng WAINI), talk shows, and mini-workshops are also presented to strengthen the capacity of young creators.
WAINI Vol. 6 Program Director, Destianawati, stated that the festival is designed as a space for young creators to grow together, with a primary focus on student filmmakers and the younger generation who bring enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the world of animation.
"We present WAINI as a space for appreciation and learning, so that young creators can develop and connect with each other," she said. "We want to provide a bigger platform for student filmmakers so that young people's work can be appreciated and become part of a growing ecosystem," Destianawati conveyed.
WAINI also features additional programs such as STICKTOK (Stick The Token), which encourages visitors to explore the entire event series, and WAINIMART, a space for creators to exhibit and sell creative products ranging from art prints and zines to merchandise.
This festival is open to the public free of charge and is intended for students, creative professionals, and the general public who want to learn more about animation.
